What to Expect in Your Lessons
TBC BJJ classes are unlike any other in San Diego. In our classes, students will learn different holds, passes, and guards while learning how to work with a partner. Students will learn about using their bodies and minds as a tool - the gains are both physical and mental. We offer classes with gi and no gi with a variety of warm-ups, drills, conditioning, and techniques.

If your young one has the spirit of a fighter or is looking for a new sport, our kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program in San Diego will help teach your 7-12 year old respect, discipline, responsibility and strength. Our Jiu Jitsu classes for younger children is a great way to start harnessing talent and giving students a place to learn.

Q: What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
A: BJJ is one of the fastest growing martial arts. It is a sport, self-defense system, and fitness program. BJJ focuses on grappling and ground fighting with the goal of getting into a position to make an opponent to submit.
Q: Can anyone try BJJ?
A: Yes! BJJ originated for those who are smaller to then learn defense against those who are bigger. It is a sport for anyone to try.
Q: Do I need a gi?
A: Some classes require a gi and some do not. We do have some extras available and can you find one to buy!
Q: What should I wear for my first class?
A: If it is a no-gi class, we recommend a rash guard and shorts - whatever is the most comfortable for you!
Q: Is BJJ safe?
A: We take the safety of our members very seriously. Our mat etiquette, class design, and practice processes help to ensure the safety of our students.
Q: How long does it take to get your black belt?
A: The journey to a black belt is an admirable one. Each person is unique but the journey usually lasts between 8-15 years.
Q: Do I need to be in good shape to start BJJ?
A: We all start from somewhere and the most important piece is that you simply start. You do not need to be in good shape to start off, but BJJ will certainly help you reach those goals.
