Often when metabolism is among discussion, it is typically in conjunction with the terminology of “speed up metabolism”. Your metabolism in the simplest of terms is the internal process that allows the body to expend energy and calories. The metabolism helps to keep the body moving. Legit, right? Unfortunately, there are many myths and misconceptions in regards to metabolism.
There are plenty of factors that can contribute to impacting metabolism. Body size, age, gender, and genes all play a role in the speed of your metaboism. Muscle cells require more energy to maintain than fat cells, therefore, people with more muscle than fat tend to have a faster metabolism. This is one of the reasons why men tend to have a faster metabolism. There are two main categories to be conveniently divided into two categories:
*Catabolism – breakdown of molecules in order to obtain energy
*Anabolism – synthesis of all compounds needed by the cells
While there are many reasons why metabolism is out of our control, there is research to support that metabolism is closely linked to nutrition and the availability of nutrients. Your resting metabolic rate (RMR) is the minimum amount of calories your body needs at rest to perform basic functions. Major facts: everyone will have a different metabolic rate based on a variety of factors, yes/. If you produce energy well, the higher / faster metabolism will be. The less energy you produce, the slower your metabolism will be.
NUTRITION IS KEY
We may want to say it even more bluntly for people that aren’t ready for this news but nutrition is the key to metabolism. The metabolism is a complex process (never forget that) that deals with how your body produces energy from fat, protein, sugar, carbs and how it stores energy. It is good to incorporate protein & mineral-rich foods, beans & legumes, ginger, coffee & tea for the caffeine, etc. The best thing you can do is eat more healthy fats and protein & less sugar.
BOOST YOUR METABOLISM
Boosting your metabolism is a term / phrase that gets thrown around way too much. Basically – this means improving your metabolic rate aka how much energy / calories you burn in a day. No matter what, this always involves long-term habits that incorporate more healthy foods and strength training.

Weightlifting is one of the best ways to build muscle and therefore, improve your metabolic rate.
