Joining a gym is not a decision that should be taken lightly. It’s a big deal. It is a place where you are going to spend a good amount of time (hopefully) and put your trust in to help you reach your goals. It’s a decision that requires discipline, motivation, and determination. How many times have you heard a story about someone signing for a gym membership that becomes a bank statement and that’s it? Before joining, it is important to check out the vibe and make sure that the gym aligns wih your goals. This is the time to get real with yourself. Real with yourself about how much money you’re willing to spend, the non-negotiables that you need to be met, as well as the overall atmosphere.
How does a gym membership usually work?
A gym membership varies by location and club. It is common for a gym membership to be charged monthly and include access to equipment, classes, and locker rooms. Some gyms (like The BXNG Club) offer extensive amenities that help encompass a wide range of needs and wants to curate an experience that is more than just a gym. It is very common for gyms to require scanning into the club with a card, app, or phone number.
Benefits of joining a gym
We get that joining a gym is something that can be daunting. The feeling like someone is watching you attempt to figure out the weightroom or how to properly punch a bag. With that feeling aside, there are so many benefits to joining a gym and continuously having a gym membership to enhance your life extraordinarily.
Just imagine you put all the fears and excuses to the side. You’re in prime mental and physical health that only seems to be getting better and you have found a community, too.
Okay, let’s start with just throwing the obvious out there. Everyone knows that exercising and putting yourself in an environment that promotes health to be a good thing. But to be more specific, going to a gym regularly enables improved lung health and muscle strength that can lead to a longer lifespan. These efforts are also profound factors in keeping chances of heart disease, high blood pressure / cholesterol, diabetes, injury and other illnesses siginificanlty lower than if you were to not exercise or be part of a gym. Another health benefit of joining a gym and having a gym membership is keeping your metabolism high (even after being done lifting weights), muscle regeneration, and BMR.
Equipment and Knowledge
While a home gym may be the dream for some, there is something to be said for having a physical gym elsewhere that you can go to separate home life from gym life. A gym will be able to provide a one-stop shop for any and all equipment that you could ever need - from rowing machines, barbells, weights, punching bags, various machines, etc. Along with all the equipment, you can also have all the knowledge. A gym will have expert instructors that will be able to make sure you’re exercising safely and efficiently. There is nothing worse than learning that you have been doing an exercise wrong; therefore, not making a difference. You can attempt to recreate a home gym, but will find it hard to replace the real deal unless you have an entire warehouse attached and a trainer.
A class is more than just a class. Behind every class, there is (or at least should be) a carefully and intentionally designed experience to help you get better. All in one it illuminates through an incredible / knowledgeable instructor, appropriately timed out split and allows you to push yourself without going too overboard where you can’t walk out on your own. It is common for multiple classes to be offered at different times throughout the day to accommodate your schedule and preferences. Classes are a great way to enhance your workout routine through variety, fun, and motivation. Having an instructor and other people around you in class can give you that extra boost to just CRUSH it.
Joining a gym also means joining a community. A community filled with purpose and an understanding of mental / physical health. It is a crew of motivators, like-minded people, and using each other to crush goals. A community can help you show up when you don’t want to. The best gyms (such as The BXNG Club) make massive efforts to make sure the community vibes and that there are multiple ways to engage with each other: happy hours, community wide classes, and other social events. You know what they say about those who sweat together… they stay together.
Increased Energy Levels
FACT. Exercise increases energy levels.
Isn’t that something that we all want? More energy? The effort that you exert while at the gym is going to improve your lung capacity and brain function. There will be more oxygen that gets pumped into your bloodstream and into your brain. Need we say more?
Feel better, Look Better
Along with improving your health, having a gym membership is a key way of reaching your physical and aesthetic goals. It’s a win-win. Work on feeling better physically and mentally. Watch yourself feel more confident in your overall appearance.
