It’s that time of year again. The holidays are almost over and it’s time to dust off your gym bag and start motivating yourself to become a better and healthier you. For some people, a simple motivational Instagram post will do the trick, but for the rest of us it’s not quite that simple. The hardest part about a fitness resolution is figuring out where to start. Luckily, the TBC family is here to help! We asked some of our world-class trainers how they re-motivate themselves and their clients for the New Year to help get you started!
- Coach Jessica: “With my clients, we’ll brainstorm together on what worked, what didn’t, and how improvements can be made. Then we’ll set smaller goals that will eventually lead to an end result of success. You have to continually check in with yourself and remember that it’s okay to start again. When it comes to anything you are training for, good things take time and the biggest advice I can give someone is to be patient and kind to yourself. Your inner dialogue is what motivates or demoralizes you. In order to progress, you have to be kind to yourself.”
- Coach Ron: “I plan my year out in advance including when I’m going to compete and when I’m going to vacation. After that, I make short term (1-3 week) goals, mid-term (3-9 months), and long term (1 year) goals. Forget motivation and inspiration – those only last hours, days, or maybe weeks. Get dedicated in your mind and body!”
- Coach Glenn: “The first step is to figure out what you want. Do you want to learn a discipline, change your body’s aesthetic, or gain endurance? Once the goal is decided, the process can begin. The second step is figure out what type of nutrition plan will work for that goal. My overall nutrition tips that I tell all of my clients are to eat food low in fat, sugar, carbohydrates, and salt. No processed food or fast food. If you can do that, the results will come.”
- Coach Beany: “First things first, you have to be honest with yourself. Are your ready and willing to stay dedicated to the goals you are trying to set? I recommend making your goals very specific, saying you want to lose weight or lose a certain number of pounds is too vague. Create a plan and nail down exactly what you are going to do. Then, seek help. Find someone who can hold you accountable other than yourself.”
